Old Ways’ first offering is the Ex Libris Collection—tabletop furniture suitable for use in the home library, study or office. The Collection will eventually comprise four or five designs in wood. All items are handmade and hand-finished, using period techniques and materials. Each includes a packet of five letterpress-printed bookplates displaying the Ex Libris “candle and open book” image. Ex Libris is available from selected retailers and galleries or by ordering directly from us. |

The accompanying pages illustrate the Folding BookRack and the Foldable BookStall, our first designs in the Ex Libris Collection. They are intended as a kind of “desktop library,” with variations. The BookRack holds from 17 to 34 inches of general reading, while the BookStall is designed for larger, heavier reference books. Both designs collapse compactly for storing when not in use. All Ex Libris designs are made from hand-selected white oak, cut to display this wood’s distinctive grain. They are joined with wooden dowels and glue. The hinges are cast out of brass, not stamped from sheet metal. The color and finish are created from materials and techniques of a century ago. All pieces are grain-matched, shaped, assembled, stained and finished by hand. For this reason, each one is peculiarly unique.
